Henry Wayne Bentley was the son of Cornelius and Abigail (Burgan) Bentley. He appears to have been the oldest of at least seven children, his siblings being (as listed in the 1900 census): Charley J. (1882), Lydia M. (1887), Levi C. (1889), William E. (1891), Sadie F. (1895), and Ellenor E. (1898).

In the 1900 and 1910 censuses, the family was living in Pleasant Grove Township, Olmsted County, MN.

At the time of his registration for the WWI draft (Sept. 12, 1918), Mr. Bentley was living with his mother ("Abbie Bentley") on a farm in Stewartville, MN, and listed his occupation as "farmer". He was described as medium height and build with blue eyes and brown hair.

He was still living with his parents in the 1920 census, and with his mother in the 1930 census. Presumably, his father passed away between 1920 and 1930. Henry's mother passed away presumably in 1935, the year her will was probated. By 1940, he was listed as a 'lodger' in the home of John Stedje in Haverhill, Marion Township, Olmsted County, Minnesota.

Henry never married.
