Death of Wm. H. Bohon a Pioneer of Bell County
Grim-visaged and silent of wings, death last night at 8:30 o’clock claimed Wm. H. Bohon, a pioneer of Bell County and this city. His demise occurred at the residence of his relatives on North First Street and while on account of the prolonged ill state of his health his death was not unexpected, it was nevertheless to be mourned by those to whom he was dear by ties of blood and friendship.
Accompanied by his brother, G. J. “Dick” Bohon, the body this morning was forwarded to Steubenville, via Burnsides, Kentucky. At Steubenville, the old home of the family, he will be laid to rest Friday afternoon in the family burial ground. The funeral rites will be said there by Rev. Eli Corell of the Christian Church with which faith for many years the decedent was devoutly affiliated.
From Friday at noon through the remainder of that day, The Model of which Al Bohon is manager will be closed for business, marking the funeral hours at Steubenville, KY.
Wm. H. Bohon was in his fifty-eighth year at the time of his death. He came to Bell County in 1877 and located at Old Howard where he was employed as bookkeeper by Hon. Geo. C. Pendleton, now of this city, who in those early days was a merchant there. In the earliest days of Temple when it was a straggling collection of temporary structures, Mr. Bohon came here for residence, receiving his first employment at the store of A. L. Levine in the capacity of bookkeeper.
Many years ago he was married to Miss Alice Young at Old Howard. One daughter, Mamie, survives their union, her residence now being at Lockhart [Texas]. Surviving relatives of the decedent resident in Temple are Mrs. S. A. Jones on North First Street, a sister, Al and Dick Bohon, brothers, and James W. Jones, a nephew.
