Helen G. Phelan, 96, Altoona, died Thursday morning at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus. She was born in Hastings, daughter of the late George W. and Lydia P. (Graffius) Weston. She married James A. Phelan, who died Sept. 29, 1967. Surviving are seven children: George Snowberger and wife, Janice, of Julian, Doris Jarrett and husband, Charles, of Duncansville and Lydia, Jean Hatfield, James and fiancee, Judy Watters, Gerald and wife, Jane, and Allen, all of Altoona; 21 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and a brother, Earl Weston of Julian. She was preceded in death by a son, Roy Snowberger; two sisters: Mary Conn and Violet Miller; and a brother, Harold Weston. Mrs. Phelan was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening and crafts. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, and 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 17, 2009, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday with Pastor John Collins officiating. Interment at Rose Hill Cemetery.
