Born in Taylors, S.C., he was a son of the late George Wells and Myrtle Taylor Alewine. Prior to his retirement, he was an employee and partner of the Taylors Lumber Company. He was a member of Taylors First Baptist Church.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Lela.
He is survived by a son, George W. "Buddy" Alewine III; a daughter, Elaine Alewine, both of Taylors; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers, Lee (Margaret) and Francis (Doris) Alewine; sisters, Aileen Odom and Fannie Nell Madden, also of Taylors; and grandson, Chris, was his special caregiver.
Memorial Services will be held Thursday, December 4, 2008, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Taylors First Baptist Church, 200 W. Main St., Taylors, S.C.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the gathering space behind the chapel. Burial will be private.
The family will be at the home of his sister, Aileen Odom, 203 Rosemary Lane, Greenville
If so desired, Memorials may be made to Taylors First Baptist Church.
Cremation Society of South Carolina is serving the family.
