Charlotte was my great grandmother, and she was extremely sensitive to the fact she was a few years older than her husband Richard Vose. So family members carefully placed fewer candles on her birthday cakes. Her father in his application for military pension gave 1862 as her birth year which is reasonable given that she was the oldest in the family, and her next sibling, Belle, was born 1864.

Besides James and Julie listed here, they had George Leonard Vose who died in his infancy after eating too many bananas.

Before she met and married Richard Vose, she was living in a boarding house in St. Louis and was a seamstress. This picture shows her modeling one of her creations.
