John W. Coleman fought in the War of 1812. He enlisted in Captain Daniel Kline’s company at Stewardsville, New Jersey on or about September 10, 1812. John Coleman a Pvt. in Capt. James Williamson's N.J. Malaitia and Capt. William Corwins N.J. Malitia. He was honorably discharged on or about September 15, 1814 at Buffalo or Black Rock New York.
