Watertown – The funeral for Sanford J. "Sandy" Hartman will be Wednesday 11 am at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home with Rev. Ronald Farr, pastor of the Emmanuel Congregation Church, officiating. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday from 3 pm – 6 pm at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Emmanuel Congregational Church, 119 So. Hamilton St., Town of Watertown Fire Department, Brookside Dr. or to the Town of Watertown Ambulance c/o David Roof, Middle Rd., Watertown, NY 13601. Mr. Hartman, 86, of Gifford St. Rd. died Friday in Watertown. He was born in Watertown, June 21, 1922, a son of Eugene V. and Anna Grothier Hartman. He graduated from Watertown High School in 1940 and from R.I.T. in 1943 with a degree in electrical engineering. Mr. Hartman served in the US Army from 1943-1945. He received the Purple Heart for wounds suffered in the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Hartman worked at the family ice business, Hartman Ice Co., assuming ownership in 1962 and retired in 1972. He married Carolyn Hollowood, June 9, 1951 at Emmanuel Congregation Church with Rev. Walton D. Moffitt officiating. Mr. Hartman was a volunteer fireman with the Town of Watertown Volunteer Fire Department for over 30 years, a member of Emmanuel Congregational Church, and the Jack McDonald hunting club. He is survived by his wife Carolyn, a son and daughter-in-law, Rodney and Andrea, Brownville. A daughter, Barbara Hartman-Reid, Greeneville, TN. A grandson, Darren Hartman, a nephew, Robert Priest, Buffalo and a niece Diane (Sam) DeLuca, New Mexico. Many other nieces, nephews and cousins. His sister, Nella Priest, predeceased him.
