Thomas is the son of John and Mary E. Moore Barton. He was born in Louisville, Jefferson Co., Ky. On Jan. 21, 1864 he married Cynthia Ann Reynolds in Buchanan Co., Mo.
Thomas was a farmer, Revolutionary Patriot and a Bushwacker during the Civil War.
Thomas and Cynthia had 13 children: Mary Ellen, Susan Emily, John Lee, Edward Arthur, Charles Price, William Asberry, Dora Eleanor, Thomas Delbert, James Franklin, Sterling Forrest, Fannie Estella, Carroll Alva and Anna Lorena Barton.
