Jerry Long went to rest in peace with the Lord, July 24, at his home. He was born September 29, 1946. He served his country in the Army and was in Vietnam. He loved his fishing and hunting; was a jolly man and never met a stranger. He had a smile on his face and always carried on conversations with anyone. He was the best husband, dad and pop-paw we could have. He always wanted his hugs and kisses everyday.
He was preceded in death by his daddy Elvin Long and brother Carlton Long.
He is survived by his wife Mary, of 36 good, happy years; a son Scott Long and wife Nova; a daughter Chasity Long; two wonderful grandchildren Mylea Long and Ruger Long; his Mother Eva Long; a twin sister Martha Talley; two brothers Chester Long and Carson Long and sister Betty McCrory and many other family members and friends.
Visitation will be held Sunday, at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home from 6 to 8 pm. Funeral service will be Monday at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home at 2 p.m.
Serving as pallbearers will be Steve Long, Donnie Trull, Michael Talley, Timothy Nelson, John Durr and Daniel Gilmore. Burial will follow in the Hamilton-Beman Cemetery with military honors.
