Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, November 6, 2009 at the Gatesville Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Doug Bates officiating. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at the Proctor Cemetery near Proctor, Texas. The family will receive visitors Thursday, November 5, 2009 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Oscar was born July 9, 1908 in Gonzales, Texas to the late William Thomas and Annie R. (Smith) Lowry. He went to school in Bloomington, Texas. Oscar and Beatrice Graham were married in 1932 and moved to Gatesville in 1951. He worked for the Civil Service, was a Real Estate Investor, an apprentice for the Railroad and a Rancher. Oscar is a Baptist. He and his wife, Beatrice joined Mercers Gap Baptist Church in Comanche County, where they were both baptized together.
Oscar was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice; brothers, Joe Byron Lowry and M.G. Lowry; sisters, Frankie Lowry Wilson, Florrie Lowry Ballard and Pearl Lowry Bradley.
Oscar is survived by his son, Jack Lamar Lowry of Buffalo, Tx; daughter, Edna Lowry Rueter of Gatesville; seven grandchildren, Dale Rueter and wife Tracy of Gatesville, Beverly Pena and husband Ricky of Gatesville, James Michael Lowry of Florida, Joe Byron Lowry of Florida, Patsy Ann Lowry of Florida, Crystal Lowry Gasper of Savannah, GA and Jack Lamar Lowry of Florida; eleven great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
