He was born on October 11, 1910, in Halifax, Virginia, the son of the late Reverend Robert Edward Lee Aylor and Mrs. Ella Katherine Vaden Aylor. He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Daphne Gershon Patterson Aylor; his brothers, Robert Edward Aylor, Manly Hargrave Aylor, Giles Vaden Aylor, Stanton Easley Aylor and Joseph Garnett Aylor.
Mr. Aylor is survived by his son, Raymond Carrington Aylor Jr., of Oviedo, Florida; his daughter, Daphne Aylor Franke of Charlottesville one grandson, three great-grandsons, two sisters, Carrie Tate Aylor of Chatham, Virginia, and Louise Aylor Montague of Lynchburg, Virginia.
He graduated from Red Hill High School, Fork Union Military Academy and the University of Virginia. Mr. Aylor was also a veteran of World War II.
He taught in the Albemarle County School system before taking a supervisory position with Occidential Life Insurance company in Southwest Virginia. He later became a partner and co-owner with his brother, Manly Aylor, in the Aylor Insurance Agency in Gretna, Virginia.
Raymond was a member of the First Baptist Church in Charlottesville and a member of Farmington Country Club.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 18, 2009, at Monticello Memory Gardens.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, any memorial remembrances be in the form of contributions to Hospice of Rochester, 3111 Winton Road South, Rochester, NY 14623-1000.
