The cemetery was recorded by either the Sally Lincoln chapter of the DAR, or by the Coles County Historical Society and is now listed in the "Prairie Sleeps, cemeteries of Coles County, Ill. vol. III." The U.S. Mortality Schedules 1850-1880 list Samuel's death in Jan. 1880 and his age as 42, dying from "spinal fever". He was born in Pendelton County, West Virginia about 1839. He married Nancy E. McMorris on 11 May 1857 in Coles County, Illinois. He was the father of 6 children: Benjamin F., Donald "Perry", Rachel Deborah, Daniel Webster, Mary J., and Martha Cordella. Samuel was a veteran of the Civil War, Co. H. 107 Ill. Inf.
