Lucy McGalliard Whitener
Mrs. Lucy McGalliard Whitener, 91, of Connelly Springs, formerly of Lenoir, passed away on Friday, Aug. 7, 2009, at Carolina Rehab Nursing Center following a period of declining health.
Lucy was born on July 4, 1918, in Caldwell County to the late Willie Jones McGalliard and Etta Kincaid McGalliard.
She was a loving homemaker who most enjoyed the everyday duties of helping her family. Lucy was also a member of Clark's Chapel Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Thirman Whitener; and eight brothers and sisters preceded her in death.
Survivors include her daughter, Karen Leonard and husband, Dennis, of Morganton, her son, Buck Whitener and wife, Sheila, of Hudson; one sister, Vanda Kincaid of Cajah's Mountain; and five grandchildren, Clay Leonard, Emily Garrison, Ellis Whitener, Cari Bridges and Annie Peele. Also surviving are six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service with the Rev. Clay Leonard officiating.
Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Lenoir.
