Lawrence J Dymek was born in Chicago, Illinois to immigrant parents who came from pre-war Germany, now known as Boruszyn, Wielkopolski, Poland. He married Mary "Mamie" Dymek in 1914 and they had three children in Chicago:

* Frances Irene Dymek Nagy, 5 Jun 1914 - 12 Jan 1986
* Robert Steven Dymek, 1 May 1916 - 2 May 1916
* Martin Joseph Dymek, 4 Jul 1917 - 22 Feb 1967

Two children were born in Cleveland, Ohio:

* Margaret L Dymek Konieczka, 14 Dec 1920 - 3 Sep 1995
* Catherine Marie Dymek Mares, 16 Apr 1927 - 22 Apr 2012

Memories from William John Nagy, Lawrence Dymek's grandson:

"My Grandpa (Lawrence J) Dymek was about 5'10" tall and had dark brown hair, which later grayed to salt & pepper. He was a hard worker who worked two jobs during throughout World War II. Grandpa Dymek would get up in the morning and work at Schoenburger's (a brush cleaning job that used solvents). Then when he had finished his day for that job, he then went to work until midnight at his second job. Grandpa Dymek worked at Schoenburger's until 1949 and it was later learned that he had contracted Carbon Tetra Chloride poisoning due to exposure to the brush cleaning solvents. Grandpa Dymek died in June 1952 when he was only 58 years old."

Lawrence J. Dymek was the primary father figure of William J. Nagy and two of Wm's four siblings. William J's own father, William A. Nagy, was in the Navy from 1934 -1949. Although Lawrence J. was a busy, hard working man who had two jobs during WWII, he also made time for creating fond memories. As a result Wm J Nagy has many cherished memories of his grandfather. He especially enjoyed Air races and Euclid Beach, a large amusement park. Another highlight that Wm J. recalled was time spent with his grandfather at an annual summertime employee picnics for his Grandfather's two employers. Lawrence Dymek was well respected by his peers and it made Wm J very proud to be Lawrence's grandson.
