Services were held for Mr. Newton "Newt" Jasper Stephens at 11 o'clock Sunday morning, Sept. 3, at Mathiston Baptist Church with the Rev. E.D. Richardson and Dr. Felix Sutphin officiating. Burial was in the Antioch Church Cemetery in Reform/Choctaw County, MS. Welch Funeral Home of Maben was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Stephens, 73, died Friday morning Sept. 1st at Felix Long Memorial Hospital in Starkville after a long illness. He was born in Edwardsville, Ala. and was a retired railway employee. He was a Veteran of World War 1, a member of Mathiston Baptist Church and the American Legion Post 19.

He leaves his wife , the former Drusiclla Hester of Mathiston: two brothers, C. W. Stephens of Heflin, Jim Stephens of Port Isahel, Texas: five sisters, Mrs. C. C. Bean of Bowden, Ga. Mrs. T.W. Bowman of Jackson, Mrs. Ross Moore, of Birmingham, Ala. Mrs. W. Allen Harris, of Birmingham and Mrs. Oran Ellis of Orlando, Fla. He also leaves a host of relatives and friends.

Pallbearers were Stanley Ellis, Chad Shumaker, Howard Moore, Mack Peacock, Doug Gilliland and Charley Pollard.
