Mary Jeanette (Shaw) Powell, daughter of Bernard Bliss and Lura (Richardson) Shaw,left Oklahoma with her family in the early part of 1919 to live in the northeastern part of NM. She was her mother's oldest daughter and helped with the family. After her mother's death in 1922 she took over the care of her family. She married Roy A. Powell on November 27,1926 in Raton, NM. They were part of the Palouse Community in Harding County, NM. Roy and Mary raised their family and continued to make their living on the Harding County prairie until their deaths.
