Merle James Schaefer, 22, of Route 2, New Holstein, passed away suddenly at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, at the St. Agnes Hospital, Fond du Lac.
He was born April 20, 1929, in Sheboygan Falls, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Schaefer. He attended St. Charles parochial School in Charlesburg and New Holstein High School. On Oct. 21, 1948, he was married at Mt. Calvary to Miss Zelda Merten.
The deceased was a member of the Holy Name Society and the Senior Servers of St. Charles Catholic Church at Charlesburg.
Survivors include: his wife; a daughter, Sheila Mae, 3; a son, Thomas Carl, 1; his parents; and his maternal grandfather, Anton Daun.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, at the Erbe Hoffmann Funeral Home at Chilton and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church in Charlesburg. The Rev. Francis J. Melchoirs will be celebrant of the requiem high mass and burial will be made in the church cemetery.
The body will lie in state at the funeral home from 7 p.m., today, until the hour of services.
Members of the Holy Name Society will hold a vigil and pray the rosary at 8 p.m., tonight, at the funeral home, and the Rev. Fr. Melchiors will lead the rosary again at 8 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home.
