Following an illness of several months, Frederick Bauer, 69, a pioneer of this region, died at his home in Ritzville at 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning. The funeral was held Tuesday at 2 p.m. from the Philadelphia Congregational church here.

Mr. Bauer was born in Kolb, Russia, June 17, 1867. When nine years of age he came to america with his parents and settled in Franklin county Nebraska, later moving with his parent to Culbertosn, Neb., and then to Ritzville, residing on a homestead seven miles northwest of town. In 1890 he was united in marriage with Mary Koch. He left the farm in 1902 and moved to Ritzville where he was employed at the Ritzville Trading company until March 1935.

He had been ailing for eight years, undergoing an operation four years ago which allowed him to continue his work for two years. Since March of last year he has been unable to carry on with his work.

Besides his widow Mary, he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Walter Schnubush, of Portland, Ore.; Mrs. O. C. Walser, of Oroville and Mrs. Elsie Buhler of San Francisco; four grandchildren, one brother and two sisters. Two sons preceded him in death.
