Nationally acclaimed Indian Artist Willard Stone died Tuesday at his home in Locust Grove at the age of 69. He was born February 29, 1916 in Oktaha to Mr. and Mrs. George Malloy Stone. He was their seventh and last child.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Locust Grove High School gymnasium with the Rev. S. R. Bynum and Rev. Kenneth Smith officiating. Jones-Wilson-Cunningham Funeral Home in Locust Grove is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Stone was a member of the Locust Grove First Baptist Church and Locust Grove Masonic Lodge. He married Sophie Irene Coger, December 28, 1940 in Henryetta.
Pallbearers will be J. L. Lackey, David Bynum, Lawrence Perkins, J. W. "Dub" Bynum, Gene Younger and Henry Campbell.
Survivors in include his wife, Sophie, of the home; five sons, Mike, of the home; Jason, Dwight, and Rocky, all of Locust Grove, and Danny, of Pryor; five daughters, Irene Montgomery, of Carson City, Nevada, Nettie Sanders, Evelyn Holland and Lyda Henson, all of Locust Grove and Linda Callery of Poteau; a brother, Lee, of Muskogee; three sisters, Ruth Woods and Allie Walker, both of Oktaha, and Elizabeth Martin of Muskogee, 27 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
