W.A. "Al" Collier, 78, of Altus, died Tuesday at his home. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Altus with the Rev. David Chittenden and Chad Worsham officiating. Burial will follow in Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Peoples Cooperative Funeral Home, Lone Wolf. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Tabernacle Baptist Church.

He was born Feb. 5, 1924 in Gould to W.O. and Maggie (Hukill) Collier.

He attended Central View and Martha schools, graduating from Martha High School in 1941 where he was the valedictorian.

He married Faye Byrd in Altus. He served in the United States Navy.

He later married Dorothy Opitz Sept. 20, 1974 in Altus.

He worked at the Post Office and was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Altus.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Cloyce Collier.

He is survived by his wife Dorothy of the home; four sons, Bob Collier and wife Linda of Carl Junction, Mo., Mike Collier and wife Betty of Altus, Rick Collier of Mount Vernon, Mo. and Kevin Collier of Dennison, Texas; a step-son, Max Worsham and wife Karen of Crescent; one daughter, Tammy Holder of Sherman, Texas; two step-daughters, Virginia Robison and husband Stanley of Rock and Sandra Pignotti and husband Mike of Lee's Summit, Mo.; one sister, Evelyn Ware of Ogden, Utah; 18 grandchildren: six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members and friends.
