Following is the obituary for:
Susan Rector Galloway died at her home near Claysville, Jan., 1, 1889 on the same farm where she spent most of her life. She was born in Faquier County, Virginia on May 24, 1804 and came with her parents to Belmont county when she was a little girl where she resided until the years of maturity. She married Elijah Galloway, Jan. 1, 1820. Moving to Westland township, then a comparative wilderness, the young couple built themselves a cabin home in which their future lives were spent and where fourteen children came to bless and sanctify their lives. All of them are dead but four: Mrs. Catharine A. Moore, of Linn county Mo: Mrs. Drusillia Anker of Cambridge; Sylvans P. Galloway of Claysville, S.S. Galloway of Creigton. Seven children died in childhood and three others died in mature years. The oldest was drowned at Blue Bell in a flood in 1850., Mrs. Lucinda Wilson died in Union county at the age of 28 and Mrs. Marinda Neeland died at Claysville at the age of 57 in 1878. The head of the family Elijah Galloway, died in 1858. The deceased joined the Methodist class now the church at Claysville, when there were only six members under the occasional ministration of the pioneer preacher Rev. Ezra Brown. Mr. and Mrs. Galloway in conjunction with another pioneer family gave out of their meager possessions a piece of land of a "God's Acre" whereon the first M.E. Church was built and within whose borders they and their children sleep at rest in the peace that God giveth to all those who are his children. Their home was the home of the early preachers and the stranger at the gates was never refused admittance. The funeral of Mrs. Galloway occurred January 3, 1889 the services being conducted by her pastor, the Rev. W. D. Starkey
