SHOT IN THE EYE
INSTANTLY KILLED
Young Arnold Prim Run Into Line of Fire as Jack Gregory Pulled Trigger and Is Killed
One of the most distressing accidents that has occurred in the county in a long time was that yesterday when Arnold Prim, the 15-year-old son of Mr. and J.A. Primm of Seversville was shot and almost instantly killed by Jack Gregory, also about 15, his friend and companion. The accident occurred between 12 and 1 o'clock yesterday on the banks of the Catawba River where the party of young men from Seversville were in camp. According to the best information procurable yesterday, young Gregory was engaged in target practice and was in his tent, which opened out facing the river. He had his rifle, a 32-caliber, resting on the tent pole and was in the act of firing just as Arnold Primm came running across the sand and in direct range of the bullet. The young man was out of view until he appeared around the tent and the sand was such that his steps could not be heard. The bullet entered his eye and lodged in the brain and death followed in about 15 minutes. Of course young Gregory was almost prostrated and so also were the other members of the camping party for the young man killed was universally beloved. The affair was altogether an accident. The campers went out to the river Monday in charge of Mr. Livingston Rogerson, who however returned Monday night. Mr. Jay Alexander being left in charge.
As soon as the accident occurred, Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Primm and others of the city were notified. There was no occasion for an inquest, all agreeing that it was an accident pure and simple. Young Gregory is a native of Union, SC and has been working for Mr. H. W. Bigelow, 12 West Fourth street for some time. He lived with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Wagner of Seversville. He is highly esteemed and much sympathy is expressed for him. Arnold Primm was a young man of fine promise and was greatly beloved by all those who knew him. The funeral will take place at the home this afternoon.
