Obit from The Gospel Messenger, dated March 5, 1889, p. 158, housed at the Brethren Archives in Elgin, Il: "Deardorf--At Mt. Etna, Iowa, Feb. 12, of paralysis, sister Isabel Deardorf, aged 78 years, 4 months and 2 days. Deceased leaves three sons, two daughters and a large circle of friends to mourn their loss, which is her eternal gain. She was a consistent member of the Brethren church for over 60 years, and died in triumph of a living faith. Services by the writer, to a large and attentive audience. David Markley"

Isabel was the daughter of Liddy Mannen and Ervin Smith. She married Jacob Deardorff on 27 Jan 1831 in Putnam County, IN. The service was performed by her grandfather, William R. Smith, Elder of the Brethren Church. They had 9 children, two [twins] died at age 5 months in 1850. Jacob died about 1850/51 and Isabel moved with the Ervin Smith family to Clarke County, IA. She is later found in a census record living with her daughter and son-in-law, David and Catherine Lippincott in Mt. Etna, Adams County, IA.
