Thomas Jeffery Gable is the son of James V. Gable and Nancy M__. He was born in SC, grew up in MS and served in the Confederate Army, Co C, 44th Mississippi Infantry. After the war, he settled in Douglas County, near his wife's childhood home.

The Battle Flag of the 44th Mississippi Infantry Regiment. This flag was captured in Nashville in December of 1864. It is currently housed at the Atlanta History Center.
