Civil War - Enlisted and mustered in 1 June 1861 as a Private at St. Louis, Missouri to Company C, Missouri 8th Volunteer Infantry Regiment; mustered out June 1864. Enlisted and mustered in as a substitute 27 October 1864 as a Private to Company B, Michigan 15th Volunteer Infantry Regiment; promoted to Commissary Sergeant on 14 June 1865; mustered out on 13 August 1865 at Little Rock, Arkansas.

Married Mary Mulcrone, daughter of Charles and Ann (Chambers) Mulcrone of Mackinac County, Michigan. Charles' memorial number is 40354561. Ann's interment is unknown.

Following his Union Army service he was a lighthouse keeper.
