Laura Jane was the oldest daughter of Henry Matthews and his wife Elzia V. Barnett. On 23 Feb 1869, in DeKalb County, she married John M. Paden, son of Samuel Sexton Paden and Margaret Massey. John and Laura never had any children of their own, but they did have an adopted daughter Jessie, who married James L. McWhorter and lived in Nashville, TN. John M. Paden died there in Tennessee in 1916, and afterwards Laura Jane came back to Georgia to live with her brother Henry J. Matthews in Brownings District, DeKalb Co.
On her death certificate, it is written that Laura Jane was buried in "Barnett Cemetery," which doesn't exist, and according to the DeKalb Historical Society, there is no legible stone for Laura Jane Paden anywhere in the county. The undertaker must have been referring to the cemetery where her parents and Barnett grandparents were buried, that is, Millican Cemetery.
