Gabriel I. "Gabe" Garcia, 79
The Rosary will be recited for Taft resident Gabriel I. "Gabe" Garcia 79, Thursday at 7 p.m. in St Mary's Catholic Church.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10 a.m. also in St Mary's Catholic Church. The Rev. Loydell J. Marth will officiate at both services.
Entombment will follow the Friday morning service at West Side District Cemetery.
Mr. Garcia was born in Wickenburg, Ariz., Sept 21, 1911 and passed away at his home Tuesday. He had lived on the West Side for the past 47 years and had been employed by Mobil Oil as a production foreman.
He was a member of St Mary's Catholic Church, sang in the church choir and in barber shop quartets. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #2468 and the Mobil Oil annuitant.
Mr. Garcia was preceded in death by a grandson. Domenic, in 1976.
His survivors include his wife, Pearl Garcia of Taft; his children and their spouses, Loretta and James Lipscomb of Taft and their daughters, Elizabeth and Jessica; Elizabeth and Terry Parks of San Bruno and their children, Daniel, Nicole and Michelle; Richard and Lucette Garcia of Buttonwillow and their children Gabriel, Maria, Alist and Anna; Mary Garcia of Alameda; Theresa and Darryl DeVeaux of San Francisco and their son, Escoffier; Patricia and Tim Zumbro of Brea and Catherine and Steven Brookshire of Santa Maria and their son, Isaiah; a sister, Christin Gallegos of Bakersfield; and a brother and wife, Mike and Stella Garcia of Bakersfield.
Donations in Mr. Garcia's memory may be sent to the American Cancer Society or the Kern County Hospice.
Those who wish may call at the Erickson & Brown Funeral Home on Thursday from 8:30a.m. to 5:30p.m. to pay their respect.
