Civil War veteran

He enlisted on October 12, 1861 at Monroeville, Ohio as a private with Company I, 3rd Ohio Calvary. He was discharged as a sergeant on October 3, 1864 at Columbus, Ohio upon completion of his service.

Cyrus was a farmer and dry goods merchant. He married Mary Ford, daughter of Nelson and Eliza about 1870. All of their daughters were school teachers.

From the Chenango Semi-Weekly Telegraph, Wednesday , July 11th, 1883:

Cyrus K. Livermore, a prominent citizen of Smithville Flats, a member of the Board of Education of that village, and a traveling agent for a boot and shoe firm, in Bainbridge, and also one in Binghamton, died on Thursday last, at Freetown, Cortland County, in the forty-fourth year of his age. The sad circumstances connected with his short illness and death, deserve more than a passing notice. A few days ago he left home for a trip through Cortland Co., reaching Freetown, June 28th. When he alighted from his wagon at that place, a hernia, with which he was troubled, fell, but be succeeded in replacing it, though as it proved not in its proper position. He was instantly taken with excruciating
pains in the abdomen. Medical aid was had but did not bring relief. A few days later a council of physicians was held, and Mr. Livermore was informed that his case was hopeless. After suffering untold pain and agony for seven days, death came to his relief. He was conscious till almost the last, and bore up under the inevitable result which awaited him with the fortitude and composure of a martyr. He leaves a wife and two children. When death was almost upon him, he called his family to his bedside, and counseled with them in a calm and fatherly manner. Deceased was a soldier in tbe late war, and the rupture which caused his death was received while in the service. The funeral was held Friday, July 6th, at German Corners, Rev. Oliver Cooper officiating. Cyrus is dead, and the grave now entombs all that is mortal of the once loving husband, father, friend; but yet his memory will live and be cherished as long as time with those he loved shall endure. His family have the sympathy of the entire community in this, their heart breaking affliction.
