Shirley S. Brewer Bruner, 72 of Geuda Springs died Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at the South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center in Arkansas City. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 2, 2009 at the Memorial Lawn Cemetery Chapel. The Reverend Steve Chambers will officiate. Shirley was born March 19, 1936 to Harry Albert Simpson and Lura Dee (Nichols) in Arkansas City. She graduated from Arkansas City High School in 1954 and later Arkansas City Junior College. Shirley worked for Southwestern Bell as an operator and later for Brown and Root Construction Company as a secretary. Her job with Brown and Root took her many places including San Francisco and Dallas. Shirley worked at the Denver Mint and other governmental agencies in the Denver area. Shirley married Robert Green in the couple had three daughters, Teresa, Tammy and Monica. She married Les Bruner and later Bud Bruner in December 2003. The couple married in Miami, OK and made their home in Geuda Springs. She is survived by her husband, Bud Brewer of the home; daughters, Tammy Campbell and husband, Steve of Ft. Collins, CO, Teresa Olsen and husband, Terry of Aurora, Co; two sisters, Nancy Woods and husband, Fred of Arkansas City, Vera Edershein of Auburn, NY and six grandchildren. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter, Monica Green and brother, Gerald Simpson.
