He was born Aug. 10, 1986, in Duluth to Michael and Heidi Cooney. Curtis was a 2005 graduate of Denfeld High School.
Curtis loved to go fishing, swimming, and he was very athletic. He enjoyed playing sports and other games. He also very much enjoyed cooking for his family and friends. Curtis will be remembered for his kindness, great smile, wonderful sense of humor and his ability to make everyone he knew feel special. He was a devoted and loving father to "Baby Michael", born on Aug. 22, 2007. To his sister Katie, he was the very best brother a sister could ask for, they held an extremely close and unique bond. To his parents he was a loving son that would always brighten their day with his plentiful hugs, kisses and cheerful demeanor. Curtis had a big heart that was full of genuine love and he was willing to do anything for anyone. Once someone met Curtis, they had an instant friend. He will be deeply missed.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Allen Heinonen; grandfather, James Cooney; grandmother, Judith Ellis and aunt, Earaka Ellis.
Curtis is survived by his son, Michael Curtis Cooney; parents, Heidi and Michael of Duluth; sisters, Katie of Duluth and Jennifer of Duluth; nephews, Kolby and Kaden; grandparents, Kathleen Heinonen of Duluth, Corinne Cooney of Duluth, Earl Ellis Sr. of Duluth and great-grandmother, Edna Westin-Anderson; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
