IN MEMORY
Mrs. E. T. Volentine died at her home near Athens, LA, May 27, 1907, age 83 years, 9 mos., 19 days. Her remains were laid to rest at Tulip by Rev. Henderson of Gibsland. She leaves five children, numbers of grandchildren and great grandchildren to mourn for her. But grieve not dear children as mother is at rest. Oh! what a sweet thought to know that she has gone to that sacred place which she so often read and talked to us about. She was prepared to go and we cannot think about wishing her back in this world of sorrow and pain. She suffered great agonies for several months before she left us, but she bore it with joy and said she would take it for her share. "Thy will be done on earth as in Heaven." She was a member of the M. E. church south at Tulip; had been a church member ever since she was 12 years old and read her Bible daily, and as the pastors of different churches would call to see her and hold prayer with her, they would ask if she had a favorite chapter and she would say "no, they are all good".
So let us all try to live as she told us and meet her in the land where there is no parting.
(Obiturary copied from the book, A Proud Inheritance" by John C. and Wanda Volentine Head)
