Obit in The Anthon Herald, 5 June 1929, page 1: M.A. Brunell, a respected resident of this community for many years, passed away in Sioux City on Wednesday, May 22, 1929. Funeral services were held Sunday, June 2nd at 2 p.m. at the Bethel Methodist Church. Rev. William P. Webb was the officiating minister. Burial was made in the Bethel cemetery. Maroni Albert Brunell was born in Galesburg, Illinois, February 18, 1840. At the age of 19 he came with his parents to Keokuk, Iowa. Shortly afterwards they emigrated to Mills Co., Iowa. On April 7, 1867, he was united in marriage to Lucy J. Allison. To this union were born eleven children, six of whom survive. They are Mrs. O.A. Riddle of Anthon; Mrs. Elmer Martin of Battle Creek; Mrs. Hiram Peterson of Phoenix, Arizona; Albert of Iola, Kansas; Willis of Morgan, Idaho; Horace P. of Estancia, New Mexico. Deceased children are Edmund, who was killed by an automobile in Minnesota just a year ago; Herbert who passed away in Portland, Oregon, 18 years ago; Fred who passed away at Marysville, Utah, 30 years ago; Freda who was buried at Piero 25 years ago; and Benny who died in infancy. Mrs. Brunell survives. In 1882 he moved with his family to Woodbury County. Here he spent ten years on a farm near Piero, then moved to Anthon where for many years he was a practicing veterinary surgeon. In his early youth he united with the Methodist church and was a true believer up to the time of his death.
