Dick was born in Uttum, Ostfriesland, Prussia, Germany. Born Dirk Jannsen Bokker, he migrated from Bremen at the age of 17 years in May of 1879 on board the ship Hohenstaufen. On October 4, 1888 he married Jennie Krum of Freeport, IL. To this union nine children were born. They are; Diertje, Daisy, William, Albirk, Carrie, Lena, Joseph, John, Jennie. Dick was a farmer.

OBITUARY- Richard Dick Bokker was born Nov. 6, 1863 in Germany and passed away Nov. 13, 1940, at Warmolts Clinic in Oregon, Ogle, Illinois following and operation which he had undergone on Saturday, November 09, 1940 at the age of 77, 7 days old. Surviving were the following children, William, Ollie and Joe Bocker, all of Byrum, John of Forreston, Mrs Ernest Brinker of Mount Morris, Mrs. George Groenwold of German Valley and Mrs. Elmer Riley and Mrs Ralph Thomas of Oregon. Two sisters, Mrs. Lena Buss of Parkerburg, Iowa, and Mrs Grace Mitchell of Mitchell, South Dakota. Three brothers, Klaas and John of Forreston, and Tony of Alexandria, South Dakota. His wife and one child preceded him in death, his wife passing away in July 1921. Rev. C.P.A. Bode conducted the funeral services held Friday afternoon at 1:30 at the De-Gaff funeral home and at 2 o'clock at the Forreston Reformed Church. Burial was in White Oak cemetery in Forreston.
