Race car enthusiast and veteran of 21 years in racing. In 1973, he was the first to break the five second mark on a 1/4-mile track at 4.99 seconds, and a top speed at the finish line of 322 MPH. His career best time of 4.62 seconds at 344 MPH was recorded at the U.S. Nationals was the highest speed ever clocked at an NHRA national event. His death prevented him from an attempt at the world land speed record that had been planned later in 1974 at Bonneville Salt Flats. Dave grew up & lived in Minnesota; he graduated from Mpls. Vocational High School.
