Valeda was the youngest of four children born to Howard Edwin Small and Janet Beatrice Giberson Small. She and her older siblings were raised by Grammie and Grandpie because both parents died just a few weeks later in the Flu Pandemic of 1918.
Valeda was tiny, but a little spitfire. She worked hard at trying to help others and do what was right, but life brought her many problems that would make many baulk. However, Valeda was very strong willed and accomplished many things dispite the challenges.
Valeda married Robert H. Stetson on 22 February 1941 in Bangor, Penobscot, Maine, and they raised 3 children.
