Thaddeus Weed was commissioned as a first lieutenant in 1777 for service in the 5th Regiment, Connecticut Line, and was a captain in the 2nd Regiment, Connecticut Line, from 1777 to 1781, serving as acting brigadier quarter-master from 25 May 1778 to 1781, and as captain lieutenant on 1 June 1781. As captain of a company detached from the 2nd Regiment, Thaddeus and his company served in August 1781 with Lafayette's Light Division in Virginia. Capt. Weed resigned 17 December 1781. He was a member of the Connecticut Society of the Cincinnati in 1783.

Theaddeus Weed was born at Stamford, 27 October 1748, son of Benjmain Weed and his second wife, Sarah (Hait) Smith, who were married 14 January 1747/8. She was the widow of Joseph Smith Jr. whose will dated 19 February 1745 was probated 6 May 1745 at Stamford. Thaddeus's brothers Abijah, Ananias, Benjamin and Smith were soldiers. He married, first, Prudence Hait, born 19 July 1744, daughter of Ebenezer Jr. and Hannah (Clason) Hait. He married, second, Anne, who died 22 March 1802, aged 50 years, and was buried in the North Street Cemetery at Stamford. Thaddeus died 12 February 1804 at Greenwfield, New York, and was buried in the North Street Cemetery, Stamford. His will, probated at Stamford, names his brothers and sisters and those of the "half blood." No children were mentioned.
