" Recollections of the Beginning"
It was in August 1837 that I came to Wisconsin with my uncle, Josiah L DeWolf, from Bridgewater, New York. We stopped one day in Milwaukee and the Nelson Olin--the oldest of the four Olin brothers-- brought us to the log house of Robert Love, who was keeping tavern at the place long known as Tubses on Fox river about a mile above the little settlement of Prarie village, later Prairieville, and now Waukesha. . ..
Mr Nelson came to Milwaukee June 1st, 1836, and took up land two miles northwest of Prairie village where we lived thirty years. We were married in Mr Love's house immediately after service Aug 12, 1838. Mr Love to ok special pleasure in furnishing water from Bethesda spring for our wedding dinner and the next day takin us in good style with his horses and lumber wagon to our home. There the workbench which had served as table was taken out of doors and the tool chest substituted, on which we ate many meals, drinking from tin cups."
