Enlisted: Oct 11, 1861. Private.

Mustered into Co "D" 52nd PA Infantry.

Discharged Jan 17, 1863 for a disability.Peter Baker grew up in Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania. He married Sarah Jane Roberts in Lodersville, in 1854. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Wyoming County where he farmed and where he and Sarah raised four children. The family moved to Paterson, New Jersey in the mid-1860s where he worked as a carpenter for a railroad. After a few years, they returned to Factoryville where their last child, Elvira, was born and where Peter resumed his farming. In their later years, Peter and Sarah moved to Scranton to be near their sons James and William. He died there in 1903. Contrary to postings elsewhere on this site, there is no persuasive evidence that Peter served in the Civil War. A Peter Baker born in 1825 served in Company D of the 52nd Pennsylvania Infantry, but that company was formed in Union County. No pension or other records are known to exist linking this Peter to that one.
