from the Crawfordsville Journal Review, July 22, 1929: Mary Elizabeth (Powell) Bowman, daughter of John C. and Elizabeth (Patrick) Powell, was born June 13, 1844, near Parkersburg, Indiana. At an early age, she united with the church at Providence, and later transferred her membership to the New Ross Christian Church of which she remained a member. On Oct. 16, 1862, she was united in marriage to Josiah Bowman, who preceded her in death Oct. 11, 1888. To this union four children were born, one son, Bruce Bowman, of near New Ross, and three daughters, Minnie A., who died in infancy, Mrs. Gertrude Linn of New Ross, and Mrs. Eliza Myers of Ladoga. Two grandsons survive, Mark E. and Manson Linn of New Ross, also five half-brothers, John I., William, Messer, Charles and Elmer Powell. She is the last to pass away of seven full brothers and sisters, Thomas M. and George W. Powell, Ariaim (sic) Evans, Minerva Spohr, Matilda Stewart and Eliza Miller having preceded her. After an illness of almost a month, she passed away at 10:45 o'clock on Sunday evening, July 21, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Gertrude Linn, having spent a long life of service to her loved ones, her neighbors and friends. Among her favorite parting words were these, "May the Lord watch between thee and me while we are absent from the other."
