Sara B. Offerdahl was born in Namdalsidet near Trondjem, Norway January 9, 1833, attended school which was kept around among the farmers until sixteen years of age. Stayed home until she was about 29 years old when her mother died (her father having died when she was only three weeks old).

Shortly after this, she emigrated to this country on a sailing vessel taking eight weeks from Trondjem, Norway to Quebec, Canada and costing only $15. She came directly from Quebec to St. Paul and not being acquainted with a soul, in a strange country among strangers, and not understanding the language, made her quite lonesome and homesick for the country of her birth. After staying in St. Paul a while, she went to Prescott by steamer, after making her home here and at River Falls she went to Clarksville (name was later changed to Baldwin), where she met Elling E. Offerdahl and was married in March (1870)about a year later. Settling in the dense forest on some land previously obtained by her husband. The nearest trading points of any consequence were Hudson and Menomonie being among the earliest pioneers of the eastern part of the county. Of this union two children were born, Haakon S. surviving and who has been county clerk of this county for many years and Edward J. who died when three weeks old. Her husband preceding her about ten months, his death taking place the later part of January, 1919.

She passed away November 21, lacking little of a month of being 87 years old and being the last of the early pioneers of this vicinity. She was of a cheerful, sunny disposition, and well known by the older generation in this section of this county. In early days, their home was a haven of many public spirited undertakings and splendid comradeship was gladly extended to all the settlers who came in one way or another to make their homes in these forests.

The funeral was held at Berstine Falck's, her niece, November 24 and the services were conducted by Rev. H. Rosenqvist. Interment was made in the Baldwin Cemetery.

(died of stomach cancer---Daughter of Svein Jonsen Lie b. 9 Feb 1783 and d. 31 Jan 1833 and Johanna Pedersdatter Holstad born 1793 and d. 28 Sept 1868)
