George R. Councell, 74, of 110 Knox St., Beaverton, died suddenly Thursday, March 25, 1993, at his home. Born in Muncie, Ind., Sept. 23, 1918, he had spent most of his life in Gladwin County. He was employed in maintenance for Dow Chemical Co, and retired in December 1976, after 30 years. He also owned a sawmill in Grout Township. Mr. Councell and the former Elsie Hoag were married Dec. 9, 1939, in Gladwin. She preceded him in death May 21, 1984.
Surviving are one son, Charles of Carmel, Calif,; one daughter, Marion Councell of Gladwin; 7 brothers, Eldon of Auburn, Ind., Tom of Littleton, Colo., Graham of Sun City, Fla., John of Clare, Robert of Grand Rapids and William of Flint.; 2 sisters, Mrs. Vera Parker and Mrs. Carmen Olin of Gladwin; good friend, Imogene Leonard of Beaverton; step-mother, Mrs. Alma Rau of Gladwin; 8 step-brothers and sisters; and 4 grandchildren.
Services were held Monday at 11 a.m. from the Hall Funeral Home, Gladwin Chapel. The Rev. Donald Roberts officiated and burial was in the Highland Cemetery. Gladwin County Record dated 03-31/1993 Column - 1 Page - 2
