Elizabeth Bartlett Long Time
Resident Dies

Elizabeth Bartlett, 77, a resident of Lincoln for the past 39 years, died in a local hospital Wednesday night.
Two sisters, Mrs. George Ray and Minnie Leich, one brother, Charles Dennis all of Lincoln survive.

Elizabeth married Harvey Bartlett in 1887; family story is that she saw him killed over a gambling debt or cheating while gambling. In 1900 she was living with her sister Jessie in Cheyenne, Wyoming. In 1907 she was living in the Nebraska Regional Center for the mentally impaired. This the family say was brought on by seeing her husband murdered. The information seems to verify the family story. "J.H. Bartlett, known as Harvey Bartlett, horse trader in the Lincoln area, went missing in 1900 near Denver." I have found no further information on him.

22 Jun 1870, Mound Valley, Labette Co., Kansas census, Redford and Catherine Dennis gave Elizabeth's age as 8/12 mos. That would make Elizabeth's birth year 1869. I will continue to look for more verification on her birth date. The source for the birth date on this memorial is from Elizabeth's father, Redford Dennis, pension form that he himself filled out, giving the date Nov. 8, 1870
