Henry Stemen, son of Reverend Henry Stemen was born July 12, 1808 in Fairfield County, Ohio. He married Rachel Beery in 1833. A year later, he and his wife united with the Mennonite Church. He was what was termed a "hard working man". His great delight was to go into the woods with an axe and clear land. He was very active and possessed of great strength. He was tenderly devoted to his children and worked hard to give them an education. Financially, he was not as successful as his siblings, but he was an honest man, one of those who are said to be the "noblest work of God". In his older years, his great delight was reading the Bible and newspapers, both secular and religious. (This information comes from a book of The Stemen Family History, written by C.B Stemen, M.D. )
