MAYODAN — Reverend Troy Clifford Johnson Sr., 81, of 255 Station Road, died Saturday, July 11, 2009, at Britthaven of Madison.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14, at Clearview Baptist Church, of which he was a member, with Brother Bob Smith, Reverend Mike Manuel, and Thomas Tuggle officiating. Interment with military graveside rites will follow in the church cemetery.

Reverend Johnson was born in Rockingham County on April 30, 1928, to the late Booser Johnson and Martha Wall Johnson. He was a U.S. veteran of the Marine Corps and had served as pastor to several churches in the piedmont area. He was retired from Mayodan Parks and Recreation Department.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Opal Gann and two brothers, Joel Johnson and Floyd Johnson.

He is survived by his wife, Marie Barrett Johnson; three children, Joy Webb and husband, Michael, of Mayodan, Troy Clifford Johnson Jr. and wife, Kay, of Winston-Salem, and Timothy Lee Johnson of Mayodan; one sister, Stella Best Johnson of Mayodan; seven grandchildren, Kelly Johnson, Matthew Johnson, Amy Stanley, Wendy Shumake, Mike Webb, Jason Johnson, and Jonathan Johnson; and five great- grandchildren, Haley Johnson, Kendal Johnson, Lauren Johnson, Sarah Stanley and Clay Shumake.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. tonight, Monday, July 13, at Ray Funeral Home in Madison and all other times at the residence.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Rockingham County Honor Guard, c/o Ray Kelly, 242 Sutton Lane, Eden, NC 27288.
