Funeral services for Bessie M. Brewer, age 88, who passed away March 17 at home in Wickenburg were held Saturday, March 21 at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with interment following at the Wickenburg Municipal Cemetery.
Bessie was born Aug. 24 1920 in Holtville, Calif. Her father Clyde Daily and mother Clara Branstetter-Daily, made their home in El Centro, Calif. She attended schools there and later married Ernest Brewer of Imperial, Calif. They made their home in Imperial until World War II, when they built their home in Garden Grove, Calif.

It was there Ernie worked at the El Toro Marine Base building hangers for blimps and also working at Newport Shipyard building PT Boats. They remained in Garden Grove for years, raising their family there.
Bessie was an avid gardener, loved participating in flower arranging competitions, and was a member of the Wickenburg Good Dirt Garden club. She knew all about flowers and birds and the specific names of each. She had a bird sanctuary on their ranch in La Center, Wash., and was State Bird Chairman there.
She and Ernie moved to Washington to be near family in 1973 where their daughter Gloria had a horse ranch. In 1999 when Gloria moved to Wickenburg, her parents came with her. Bessie loved her community, and she enjoyed the activities at the Wise Owl and the R&R Respite Center, where she was featured on the cover of their brochure.
Bessie attended First Presbyterian Church and she was an active member of the Weaver Mountain Red Hatters. She had just won an award this year at Buckshot Babe's Red Hat Rendezvous for the "Most Beautiful Red Hat".
Mom's hat collection was part of her daily attire; at least 60 hats decorate her bedroom walls. Bessie also wrote poetry and was quite involved in genealogy, having written several personal family history books. She loved arranging flowers and had collected frogs for years, having a large assorted collection.
Our family motto is "A family that plays together, stays together." Family was by far the most important thing in Bessie's life. She had strong family ties and had a very optimistic outlook on life.
After Bessie's husband Ernie passed away in 2004, she took lot of fun trips. Her granddaughter Heather Taylor took her twice to Alaska for the Inland Passage cruise, many times to Disneyland, the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Sea World, and San Diego. She spent some of the summer with her son Ed and family, as well. They too indulged her zest for the wanderlust, taking her many places. It is a true statement when we say, "Well, Mom do you want to…?" and before we could finish, she would reply "Let's go!" She loved adventure and was game for almost any thing we could get her wheelchair to do.
All who knew her were left with the feeling that they had gained something - that wonderful spark that comes from a truly unique and honest hearted person. That was Bessie Marie Daily-Brewer. She was loved and is loved, and we will miss her terribly. God's blessings will carry her to the Lord's promise of Heaven and to all those loved ones who have preceded her to be there.
Bessie is survived by children Ed Brewer (Cheryl) of Bakersfield, Calif.; Don Brewer (Diane) of La Center, Wash.; Jerry Brewer (Marguerite) of Redmond, Wash.; and Gloria Brewer-Henkel (Bob) of Wickenburg; grandchildren Kathy, Steve, Christy, Lewis, Donnie, Denise, Darcie, David, Dawn, Danny, Eric, Erin, Heather, Heidi, Scott and Jason; and many great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, our children who need liver transplants and research for such would appreciate donations. Donations can be sent to classkids.org in the name of Bessie Marie Brewer. (Her great-granddaughter is a liver transplant recipient.)
Arrangements are under the direction of Wickenburg Funeral Home & Crematory.
