BATAVIA, N.Y. - Genesee County Coroner, Dr. Sidney L. McLouth, said Sunday that a body found beside nearby railroad tracks Saturday was that of Vernon C. Porter, about 37, of Andover, Mass.

McLouth said identification, tentatively made Saturday through papers on the body was confirmed Sunday with authorities and Porter's family in Massachusetts.

The body was found in the town of Darien by the crew of a Delaware, Lackawanna & Western freight train. Authorities said Porter died of a head injury apparently suffered when he fell from a moving freight.

Mr. Porter lived in North Reading for many years, and served for several years in the Merchant Marines. He was the son of the late Carl and Ethel (Kimball) Porter.

In addition to his sister, he leaves a son, Carl, 15, and a daughter, Patricia, 18; of Michigan and a brother Kenneth.
