Retta was born in Bay St. Louis on September 26, 1930 and was a lifelong resident of Bay St. Louis and Waveland, MS. She was of the Methodist Faith. Retta was a proud member of the Clement R. Bontemps American Legion Auxiliary Unit #139. She served as Unit Chaplain and a member of the Unit Executive Committee. She was a caring volunteer for our veterans. In 2003 she was the 139's 1st "Queen Minerva" and recipient of unit's "Woman of the Year." Retta was a valued member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James Herbert Cardin; parents, Edward "Manny" & Laura Elizabeth Hatfield Kimmel; brother, James Kimmel; 3 sisters, Lillian White, Gladys Kimmel, and Clifford Bandaret.
Retta is survived by her 3 children, Michael John Cardin of Seattle, WA, Mary Beth Cardin of Waveland, MS, Laura Nell Cardin of New Orleans, LA, and a brother, Edward Kimmel of Bay St. Louis, MS. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 21, 2005 from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm at the Edmond Fahey Funeral Home in Bay St. Louis, MS. Burial will be private. (Sun Herald, The (Biloxi, MS) 4/20/2005, Page A8)
