Mahoning Dispatch, Fri, 25 Jan 1907
"Eli Handwork, a well known farmer of Austintown township, residing a short distance east of Smith's Corners, was found dead in a field west of Nelson Shafer's residence about 8 o'clock Wednesday morning. Mr. Handwork started about 1 o'clock Tuesday afternoon for Nathan Yager's to buy hay, most of his crop having been destroyed last summer when his barn was set afire by lightning and burned. He took a short cut across the fields. When he did not return home in the evening his family became alarmed and calling on neighbors searching parties were organized. At the time above indicated Nelson Shafer and two other men found Mr. Handwork's body in a field. Death is supposed to have been due to apoplexy or heart trouble. The deceased was about 55 years of age, a thoroughly good citizen and highly esteemed by all who knew him. He leaves a widow and five children. The funeral will be held Saturday morning, meeting at the house at 10 o'clock and going to the Lutheran church in Cornersburg where services will be held about 11 o'clock. Burial in the cemetery near the church."
