My great, great grandfather on my Mom's side. I have heard from English relatives and they tell me the family lost track of Francis and were thrilled to see this memorial for him here.

He was born in Terrington St Clement, Norfolk, England, and he was the son of John Doughty and Jemima Chilvers. I am still researching this, but I believe he had the following siblings: Ann, Robert, John, Alice, Elizabeth, Thomas, Mary and Hannah.

He arrived in the U.S. in 1852, and married Ann M. Holloway in 1854 in Indiana.

Marriage license of Francis Doughty and Ann Holloway 20 July 1854 Dearborn County, Indiana. Records state they were married on August 28.

Francis and Ann moved from Indiana/Ohio to Illinois. They lived for a time near Kinderhook, Pike County Illinois which is in far Western Illinois.
My grandmother was born there or perhaps just over the border in Missouri.
They then lived in my county (Livingston) for several years here in Illinois. Francis and Ann, and their sons then left Illinois for Nebraska sometime around 1890. They went there to homestead.

They left behind their daughter Laura, who is my great grandmother. She had married by the time they left, and she and her husband lived out their lives in this county.

I know that Francis and Ann came back to Illinois for visits. But they lived the remainder of their lives in Lexington, Dawson County, Nebraska, and are buried there.

Francis and Ann Doughty had 6 children, only 3 were living by 1900. Those 3 were William, Robert and Laura. One of those who died before 1900 is unknown to me. The other 2 are Alice and John. I am still looking for Alice's burial, but John is buried in Missouri.

I wish I knew more about my great great grandparents. They were gone before my mother was born, and I struggled to find out what I do know.
May they rest in peace.
