John Woodside is the son of Samuel Woodside and Jannett Morrow. He married Nancy Woodside 7 Sep 1813 Livingston Co, Ky. Her
First shows up in Ky in 1802 when he obtained and paid taxes on 400 acres.near the headwaters of Crooked Creek in Livingston Co, now Crittendon Co, Ky. by 1817 he had acquired l200 more acres nearby, this time on Pilot knob on the Piney Fork of the Tradewater River.
The Woodside family was living in this area when the 1811/12 New Madrid earth quake hit the area and must have lived through quite an ordeal since it rang church bells in the east and made the rivers run backwards. The Chickasaw Indians in the area said the earth rolled like water and the earth became so hot that even in the dead of winter, no one could walk barefoot.
John was in the war of 1812. He appeared on the muster roll at Camp Jackson as a private in Captain James Fords Company of the 13th Regimant, Kentucky Detached Militia, enlisting on 10 November 1814 for six months.
In 1833 1834, John sold his crooked Creek land ( James C Kimzey also owned land on Crooked Creek)
and in 1839 and 1844 acquired 360 acres in Marissa Twp., St Clair Co, Ill. It was during this time that David Kimzey and Sarah marry. St Clair co, Randolph Co and Perry Co all come together close to Marissa Twp. This was close to where his brothers and sisters and mother had moved 10 yrs earlier.
In 1854 John sold his remaining 200 acres on Piney Fork and moved to St Clair County. He died the next year. He was buried in Coulerville Cemetery.
